Get involved with Basic Income Ireland
You can be involved with Basic Income Ireland in any of the following ways:
1. Become a member of Basic Income Ireland
See our Membership and Donations page for how to join.
2. Join our Mailing List
Join the mailing list and we will keep you updated about meetings and activities. Contact us with your name and email address and we will add you to the mailing list.
3. Give us your suggestions...
Basic income also goes under other names, such as citizen's income, citizen's dividend, universal basic income, etc. Can you think of something better, clearer, punchier, more imaginative, in short, a more suitable name for the concept, for Ireland at this time? Contact us and we will post the best suggestions on the website.
Anne Hawkins writes: "my suggestion for the name is an EASE payment as it would ease the financial burden for many and ease other areas of life also. I have suggested a possible appropriate meaning for each letter of the word EASE as well. EASE: Equal: a share each."
4. Participate in our Wiki
A wiki is an online space where we develop text for our website and other public documents. Members of the wiki are free to make an input and share their insights with others. Access is open and equal to everyone. It is a good way to stay in touch with the network's developing thinking on basic income, especially if you cannot attend network meetings. Do not be afraid to make changes or add pages - all versions are automatically saved and can be restored if necessary. To join the wiki, you need to send an email to John Baker at john.baker@ucd.ie and he will send you the link.
5. Attend Our Network Meetings
They are usually in Dublin on weekday evenings and sometimes on Saturday afternoons. This is a good way to get to know some of the other people in the network, as we try to make the meetings inclusive and participative. You don't have to attend all meetings, you can just attend occasionally if that suits you. Neither will you be expected to take on any tasks if you don't want to. But if you want to help with various network activities, that is also very welcome. If you are on our mailing list (see above), you will receive email notes about network meetings and the dates of forthcoming meetings. You can also find the dates of meetings on our News and Events page.
6. Like our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter
See links in top right of page.
7. Talk to people about basic income
Help to get other people thinking about it and discussing it. Tweet about it or put a link to this website on your Facebook page, your emails or on your own website if you have one. Start a meeting in your own area. Ask people (economists, politicians, journalists, commentators and others) you meet or talk to on twitter or in other forums what they think about basic income.
8. Make a short film, song or play about basic income
Make a short film, song or play about basic income, which will help spread the word to different groups and audiences. The network members would be happy to help you with ideas and content, if you are able to do something creative. Contact us to start the ball rolling or talk to someone at a meeting about this.
9. Make a donation to Basic Income Ireland.
See our Membership and Donations page for how to donate.
10. Contact Us / Fáilte roimh chomhfhreagras i nGaeilge
Contact us with any other ideas you have about how people can become involved, or about other material we can develop for the website
