This evening event is free to attend and is being organised to give everyone a chance to participate and offer their opinions. We will also formally launch our new website during the event. It would be lovely if members from all over the country could attend and meet each other. It is also is a chance for the network to engage in a collaborative way with a wider public.
Context for Event
This first public Basic Income Ireland event is part of a week-long tour by Erik Olin Wright, a US activist and academic. Erik will visit Limerick, Cork, Cloughjordan, Maynooth and various sites of activism in the Kildare/ Wicklow region during his tour.
Erik will participate in our event on Thursday, 7 March and respond at the end to some of what he hears.
You can watch a video of Erik speaking at another event here.
How to Attend
Please email basic.income@nuim.ie if you intend to come to the event. You are welcome to bring a friend to this event (please indicate the same in your email).
The campus is within walking distance of the bus terminus and railway station and signposted from the centre of the village of Maynooth. More information available at: www.nuim.ie/location.
If you are driving, there is plenty of free parking on campus after 5pm each day.
If you want someone to meet you in the town to help you find the venue on campus, please email basic.income@nuim.ie and we can arrange something.
If you are coming from a distance and would like to stay over in Maynooth from Thursday evening until the Saturday event (see below), there is some simple modestly priced accommodation on campus. More info available here: www.maynoothcampus.com.
The Glenroyal Hotel in Maynooth is also reasonable. http://glenroyalhotelkildare.com
If any BII members are in Maynooth on Friday, 8 March, it would be possible to arrange a get-together during the day to review the evening event, or discuss anything else members are interested in. One of our steering group, Anne B Ryan, works at NUIM and could host this. There will also be a social / music evening in a local pub on Friday evening. Please email Anne if interested.
